Accomodation

BEgroup can assist you with more information and support to help you decide a suitable accommodation type for you.

1. Homestay– Estimated Cost Range $240 – $350 per week
Most students choose to stay with a Homestay family because it allows them to get to know a new culture and provides the best opportunity to practice the English language. Homestays are valuable in providing students with insights into the Kiwi way of life and frequent practice in conversational English.

2. Hostels- Estimated Cost Range $110 – $270 per week
Hostels are usually run by organisations such as the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). Students share common facilities such as kitchen and bathroom.

3. Flatting/Shared Accommodation – Estimated costs range $100 – $200 per week
Students often share accommodation with fellow students. Usually they advertise online and on noticeboards. Students may have to arrange their own furniture. You can always get second hand furniture at cheap prices.

The charges for flatting/shared accommodation may vary from suburb to suburb, but generally the accommodation close to central city is more expensive than the outer suburbs. The price usually include rent only and does not include food, bills or other expenses.

4. Rental Accommodation – Estimated Costs $40 – $500 per week
When renting a house, apartment, or property, owners require rent to be paid in advance and will require a security bond of up to the value of one month’s rent.

Most private rental houses and flats are legally required to have a tenancy agreement in place. This protects both the property owner and the tenant.

Airport Pickup

A 24- hour airport pick-up service is available to all new international students. If a student is arriving in New Zealand for the first time, Kingston understands that arriving in a new country can be both exciting and a bit scary! That is why we offer an airport pick-up service for new visiting students. Just email us if you require a pick up.

Please include your:

Full name and contact information
Flight number and airline
Arrival time and date

You’ll be sent a confirmation email and payment details. A friendly Kingston representative will be in the arrivals area to meet you on your arrival date. You won’t miss them!

International Student Insurance

In New Zealand, most international students are ineligible for public funded health and disability services. However, everyone in New Zealand is covered by Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), which will pay for physical and mental injuries caused by accidents, conditions related to work, medical treatment and sexual assault or abuse.

The Code for the Pastoral Care of International Students stipulates that “when enrolling international students, signatories must ensure that international students have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance for the duration of their planned period of study”. It requires international students to hold acceptable insurance from the time of their enrolment until their visa expiry (or departure from New Zealand). Immigration New Zealand has defined “acceptable insurance” as insurance that is compliant with the Code and acceptable to the student’s education provider.

Public Transport

Auckland City has a comprehensive bus system. The Britomart Transport Centre at the bottom of Queen Street close to the school campus is worth a visit. Here you can obtain travel information and the Auckland Transport Hop Card which enables discounted travel on selected buses, trains and ferries. Take your student ID with you.
